Colour Coded Front Grille Fit

In this section I will tell you how you can add a colour coded grille and Octavia II vRS badge to your Fabia. The images are ‘clicky’ and will open a larger image in a new window.

Parts you will need are –

  • Chrome Radiator Grille Frame 6Y0 853 661 739 (Approximately £42.21) (You will obviously have had the grille painted at a suitable bodyshop or similar. )
  • Octavia II vRS Badge 1Z0 853 679 LAQ
  • Grille Black 6Y0 853 668 01C (Approximately £24.89) – Optional
  • Skoda Emblem 1U0 853 621 C MEL (Approximately £11.10) – Optional

Tools you will need are –

  • T27 Torx Tool
  • Flat Blade Screwdriver
  • 8mm Spanner

Method –

Firstly you will need to remove your existing grille from the car. Open the bonnet and remove the 8mm nyloc nut from the bonnet release lever (see figure 1). Next, using the T27 Torx tool, remove the eight screws that secure the grille assembly to the car. Don’t remove the four screws that hold the fixing brackets to the bonnet. Remove the grille from the car and at the same time withdraw the bonnet release lever.

Now we’ll need to carefully dis-assemble the grille assembly. The entire assembly is held together by a series of plastic clips which must be gently levered open using the flat bladed screwdriver, the chromed bit comes off first followed by the centre section coming out of your original outer painted section.

The new Octavia II vRS badge comes with a backing plate, you will need to glue this carefully to your new grille, I used Araldite Rapide. Look at the backing plate and you will see it has ridges which are designed to butt up onto the slats in the grille.

Once the glue is dry you can begin to assemble the new parts of the grille. Firstly stick on your new round Skoda badge, and then stick on your new Octavia II vRS badge, then it’s simply a case of carefully building the grille back up by clipping it all together. It is advisable when refitting the newly painted chrome outer grille to locate the clips near the Skoda badge into the main part first.

Once the grille is fully assembled you can fit it back to the car, remembering to re-insert the bonnet release lever.
