Mobile Phone Car kit Integration

In this section I will tell you how you can connect your proprietary car hands free kit such as the Sony Ericsson HCB-700 to the factory fit Symphony CD Head unit without using an after market Radio Mute kit.

Parts you will need are -

Your choice of car kit
6 pin Multi Connector (Yellow) VAG Part Number 4A0 972 643 (Approximately £2.05 each)
6 pin Multi Connector (Green) VAG Part Number 4A0 972 643A (Approximately £2.05 each)
6 pin Multi Connector (Blue) VAG Part Number 4A0 972 643B (Approximately £2.05 each)
Single Wires VAG Part Number 000 979 131 (Only sold in quantities of 5 approximately £5.25 for the 5 items)
Single Wires VAG Part Number 000 979 133 (Only sold in quantities of 5 approximately £5.25 for the 5 items)
3 Scotchlok style connectors
3 Inline crimps

It is possible to only use the Green connector however the three do clip together and make a better fitment. If you have an OEM CD Changer installed then you will already have the Blue connector in place.

Tools you will need are -

Radio removal keys
Pliers to fit Scotchlok connectors
Wire strippers and cutters
Decent crimping tool for inline crimps

Method -

I am assuming that you have fitted the hardware of your car kit and now have only the connections to make. The car kit will probably require a permanent live, a switched live, an earth (GND), a telephone mute control and the two speaker connections.

The connections should be made as follows -

Telephone Mute Control - Connect to Black 8 Pin Multi Connector Pin 2 using one end of wire 000 979 133 inline crimped to your mute lead. There is a small purple locking tab which should be carefully prised out of the plug a little bit, then push the termination into the plug and push the purple tab back in.

Switched Live - Connect to cable from Black 8 Pin Multi Connector Pin 4 using a Scotchlok connector.

Permanent Live - Connect to cable from Black 8 Pin Multi Connector Pin 7 using a Scotchlok connector.

Earth - Connect to cable from Black 8 Pin Multi Connector Pin 8 using a Scotchlok connector.

Hands Free Speaker +ve - Connect to Green 20 Pin Multi Connector Section Pin 7 using one end of wire 000 979 131 inline crimped to your speaker +ve lead and push the termination into the plug.

Hands Free Speaker -ve - Connect to Green 20 Pin Multi Connector Section Pin 12 using one end of wire 000 979 131 inline crimped to your speaker -ve lead and push the termination into the plug.

Enabling the phone menu -

To enable sound through the car speakers you must first enable the telephone audio input and telemute functions of the Symphony Head unit. To do this, with the radio switched on press and hold the TP button to enter the main menu. Using the left and right buttons (< or >) select the phone option and then rotate the volume control to enable it. Again, using the left and right buttons select the phone in option and enable it. At this point you can also set the phone volume level.
